Un equipo de investigadores españoles ha descifrado las bases funcionales de la corteza prefrontal, que se relaciona con los mecanismos selectivos que debe ejecutar el cerebro al decidir entre varias opciones o discernir si conviene o no realizar cierto acto.
El estudio, publicado en el último número de la revista "PNAS", puede aportar nuevos datos en investigaciones sobre patologías psiquiátricas basadas en una alteración de la corteza prefrontal, como la esquizofrenia.
En la investigación, dirigida por los investigadores de la Universidad Pablo de Olavide de Sevilla (Sur), Agnès Guart y José María Delgado, participó además el equipo de Alfonso Fairén del Instituto de Neurociencias de Alicante.
Durante la investigación, se comprobó que el cerebro continúa aprendiendo mientras la región prefrontal está activada.
Según Fairén, esa corteza "controla muchas actividades cerebrales que nos distinguen como humanos, no sólo en el aspecto cognitivo, sino también en la valoración subjetiva y afectiva del conocimiento".
