Investigadores de la Universidad de Hong Kong, China, descubrieron que las células del cáncer se recuperan y continúan dividiéndose después que se dejan de suministrar los medicamentos que inducen la apoptosis (muerte celular).

Sin embargo, las tumorales tienen la capacidad de evitar la muerte, pueden recuperar su forma y funciones normales.
El equipo halló que sólo no pudieron volverse a recobrar cuando el núcleo celular, el cual contiene material genético clave, se comenzó a desintegrar, lo que se produce en la última fase del proceso de muerte de la célula.
Los resultados del estudio pueden conducir al desarrollo de nuevos medicamentos anticancerÃgenos, según uno de los autores principales del estudio Ming-Chui Fung.
